10 MASSIVE LEADERSHIP QUESTIONS

Everything rises on leadership. History has given lengthy endorsement to the fact that no generation ever rises above the level of its leadership. Leadership is not reserved for the exclusive few who were so called ‘born to lead’. The fundamental traits of leadership can be discovered and developed through intentional learning. Though leadership might come more naturally for some, there is no question that material presented in this book will empower every reader to a far more effective leadership functioning.

Werner Strauss is a student of leadership. I have seen the commitment with which he has pursued leaders of stature both in the church and outside, with a keenness to glean and to implement what he has learned in his own context of leadership. I marvel at the comprehensive presentation that he delivers in this writing, recognizing the importance of every one of the 10 M’s as critical inputs for leadership in the 21st-century.

Leadership and management are fundamentally different in their posture. Management would focus on planning, coordinating, monitoring, problem-solving and elements of stewardship, including the managing of the risk, finance and legal aspects of the organization.

Leadership however focuses on clarifying and communicating vision and values, facilitating strategic integration of all departments, developing people and taking responsibility for resource generation and allocation.

The problem with many leaders is that they are managing, thinking that they are leading. There is a distinct difference – and unless there is clarity and intentionality to embrace the leadership functions, organizations, ministries and churches will continue to suffer.

Since the very beginning of my ministry, I have been convinced of the importance of the local church. Yet it repeatedly, I have encountered discouraged pastors, dispirited church members, and ineffective churches. We know that there are no quick fixes, neither do we want them. But we also do know that where leaders flourish, the church’s impact for Kingdom advancement is exponentially repositioned.

In many churches, the Pastor takes responsibility not only for ministering to the people, but also to lead the organization. Unfortunately, many are not adequately equipped to step into this responsibility. Nearly all organizations today faced adaptive challenges that would require new ways of practicing leadership. Churches are no exception. Thriving in a changing world demands ongoing renewal and empowerment for every leader. The resource you have in your hands is unquestionably prepared to make a significant contribution to equipping you for this very challenge. This book is deeply insightful, comprehensive and inspiringly practical.

I highly recommended it as a resource to everyone who has the desire to grow their leadership capacity.
